[Jesus said to his disciples: …] Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” Lk 11:9-10.13
Monica of Tagaste is known as a caring mother who kept asking her son and the local bishop constantly; a son for his conversion, and a bishop with her tears for help. She repeatedly asked him to help her convert her son. The bishop recommended her to be patient and encouraged her: “It is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish.” Monica certainly didn't think it would take so many years and that it would be such a long journey. But she persevered in her pleadings, and thanks to her prayers, her husband, mother-in-law, and finally her stubborn Manichean son - St. Augustine. It happened in the way of God, and at the time God set, not Monica.
Can you accept that your life will not look exactly as you plan it and your prayers may not be answered according to your ideas? Can you accept God's answers, breathe, calm down, and trust that your prayers will be heard?
“You heard her, and you did not despise her tears when they flowed down from her eyes and watered the earth beneath, in whatsoever place she prayed.” St. Augustine
