Tuesday, October 15, 2019 – St. Teresa of Avila Rom 1:16-25; Lk 11:37-41 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jesus said to Pharisee, “Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside?” Lk 11:40
St. Teresa of Avila wrote in her book The Interior Castle to her fellow sisters: “It is that we consider our soul to be like a castle made entirely out of a diamond or of every clear crystal, in which there are many dwelling places. For in reflecting upon it carefully, Sisters, we realize that the soul of the just person is nothing else but a paradise where the Lord says He finds His delight. (…) Well, let us consider that this castle has many dwelling places: some up above, others down below, others to the sides; and in the center and middle is the main dwelling place where the very secret exchanges between God and the soul take place.” It took nearly 20 years of monastic life until Teresa understood this truth, a truth about the value, beauty, and greatness of man's soul. Later she was asked to share this truth. This was the reason this religious woman became so active in her endeavor.
Are you aware of the great privilege that the most exalted guest dwells in your heart? Do you look for His presence? How could you honor in others the fact that they are a temple of God?
“ Our intellect, no matter how insightful, will never be able to understand the beauty of the soul - as it will never be able to understand God, in whose image we were created.” St. Teresa of Jesus
