Jesus said to his disciples, “You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” Lk 12:40
Solanus Casey was a Capuchin friar. His great problems with understanding his studies, which made him almost unable to be ordained to the Priesthood, were compensated by his piety and goodness. Even though he was a priest, he was not allowed to preach or hear confessions. So, he decided that he would bless and love others. He devoted himself to this service at the gatehouse, where he spent more than two decades. It became a place where the visitors to the monastery felt welcomed. Meeting with this humble doorman meant meeting a saint who helped them to come closer to God. For him it was an opportunity to meet Christ, whom he could help in the needy. Sixty-two years ago, during his finale moments, on a hospital bed, despite his great pain, he had only one desire - to be conscious to the very end so that he could consciously welcome the last guest of his life, whom he learned to know in passers-by.
Do you perceive the mysterious presence of Jesus in your brothers and sisters? Are you open to the possibility that God is coming into your life?
“We must be faithful to the present moment or we will frustrate the plan of God for our lives.” Bl. Solanus Casey
