Jesus said to his disciples, “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Lk 12:49
Pope Francis in his exhortation “On the Call to Holiness in Today’s World” says, “Those who really wish to give glory to God by their lives, who truly long to grow in holiness, are called to be single-minded and tenacious in their practice of the works of mercy. Saint Teresa of Calcutta clearly realized this: “Yes, I have many human faults and failures... But God bends down and uses us, you and me, to be his love and his compassion in the world; he bears our sins, our troubles and our faults. He depends on us to love the world and to show how much he loves it. If we are too concerned with ourselves, we will have no time left for others.”
Is the fire that Jesus desires to bring to this world burning in your heart? What can extinguish the fire of your zeal? How could you respond effectively?
“A Christian should always remember that the value of his good works is not based on their number and excellence, but on the love of God which prompts him to do these things.” St. John of the Cross
