Advent Season is a special time, when the Prophet Isaiah calls us to “prepare the way of the Lord and make straight His paths” (Lk 3:4). In ancient times, roads were very poor. They were crooked, bumpy, rough, rocky or muddy, etc. Therefore, St. John the Baptist told the people of his time how to prepare for the coming of the Redeemer to this world, “Share clothes, food, money, with the person who has none and be satisfied with your wages” (cf. Lk 3:11-14).
The roads in the 19 th century were still in bad condition. Blessed Alphonse Marie (MAM) understood very well the calling of the Prophet Isaiah. She prepared the way of foundation the new Congregation by listening the “voice” of her spiritual leader and confessor, Father David Reichard, and the Bishop Räss. In her town, she made low every mountain and hill of misery, by doing the corporal works of mercy. There, she filled every valley of helplessness, by doing the spiritual works of mercy. The winding roads of the sinners, she made straight by accepting her own suffering. The rough ways of mockery, she made smooth by prayer.
Did Blessed Alphonse Marie help you to understand better, what you can do to prepare the way for Jesus, the Redeemer of the world?
